Miguelito is eighteen, just leaving the hospital with a long scar and a copy of Dante's Divine Comedy. Ever since he read this book, he knows he wants to be a writer. But for now, it's summer, and Miguelito is hanging out by the pool with Babirus, who likes martial arts, Pak, whose father is rich, little Mortallo, and Luli, who dreams of becoming a dancer. When the summer ends, the gang scatters in all directions, and Miguelito's romance with Luli also ends. Both young people have grown up. "My film is about the transition from adolescence to adulthood," says Antonio Banderas. "The dreams of my youth were much more modest than my life was then. I always wanted to be a stage actor, not a star. I have lost none of the energy that once drove me to leave Malaga. I still remember the exact moment when I realised I had changed. If I ever return to Malaga, it will be in the skin of a different person." Summer Rain was screened in the Panorama section of the 2007 Berlinale and won the Europa Cinemas Label Award there.
