Movie or TV Series Plot
What happends when you can't sleep? You will find the solution, whatever it costs.
The film’s narrator (Edward Norton) is an unhappy young man, depressed with his job that he doesn’t like, and the life that he leads. A struggling insomniac, he attends support groups for people with terminal illnesses, despite not having one, in order to get his emotions out and finally be able to sleep. It is at one of these support groups that he meets Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), but her presence ruins the support group’s ability to help him sleep when he learns, like him, that Marla is not really afflicted either. Next, he meets Tyler (Brad Pitt) and has to move in with him. Together, they begin to play around and fight a bit and the narrator finds that the violence helps his depression and his insomnia. Their fights gain a following and the two decide to start a fight club. As violence, bonding, and success grows, the narrator struggles with the entire situation—especially as Tyler begins a relationship with Marla whom he is also in love with. Were their attempts to create “fight therapy” really creating a downward spiral? Is the narrator better off for having changed or was it all a big mistake?
