Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) is convinced, based on his data and measurements, that the Earth is going down and their children's children will feel the full consequences. However, he miscalculates a little: it won't be their children's children, but they themselves who will feel the wrath of the Earth: massive hailstorms, a hurricane in Hawaii, snowfall in India and a series of devastating tornadoes. An ice age is approaching in the northern hemisphere, and while Jack warns the White House, his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) remains trapped in New York, in a local library, with several survivors of the massive flood. Jack has no choice but to use his experience from his Antarctic missions to rescue his son.
