Guido Orefice is a young Jewish Italian living in Arrezzo. He is full of joy and energy and dreams about opening a library. He meets a lovely young girl with whom he has a child. But 1938 Italy enforces a set of racial law leading to the deportation of Guido and his son to a German concentration camp. In order to protect his son from the horror of the camp, Guido will imagine a scenario in which the life in the camp is a game and the aim is to get on a real war tank!
