The calculating Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) and her lover, a sleazy insurance agent (Fred McMurray), force Mr. Dietrichson to take out a life insurance policy for Double Indemnity. Phyllis' husband has no idea that by signing the insurance policy on his life, he has sealed his future fate. The two conspirators plan the perfect crime, and after Dietrichson's death, they plan to collect on the insurance policy. The murder is seemingly perfect, but the insurance company's uncompromising investigator (Edward G. Robinson) senses betrayal. The tense atmosphere thickens when the former lovers and accomplices discover they can't trust each other.

This dark thriller based on a true story is one of director Billy Wilder's masterpieces. The film received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Barbara Stanwyck.
