The film follows the early days of Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman) in the Prime Minister's chair. Following the invasion of Belgium, the Netherlands and France by German troops, it is clear that Hitler's next focus will be on Britain. In addition, almost the entire British army of 300,000 men is stranded at the coastal town of Dunkirk. Winston has a daunting task: to convince other politicians that the only right path is not peace negotiations with Hitler, but the defence of the homeland and a crushing counter-attack to a victorious end.
