Alice Kingsley is a nineteen-year-old girl who has been haunted by the same nightmare about strange creatures since she was a child. She cannot sleep because of it, and the only remedy is her loving father, who always calms her down. After her father's death, not only do the nightmares return, but her vivid imagination complicates her life in many ways. Thirteen years later, Alice is a charming, somewhat eccentric, and bright girl who surprises those around her with strange ideas and unusual thoughts. One day, however, an unpleasant surprise awaits her: her mother intends to marry her off to the dim-witted, unsightly but wealthy Lord Hamish. Alice flees her engagement party into the forest and runs after a rabbit in a waistcoat. She falls into a deep hole after him and finds herself in a strange world, without remembering that she has been there before. She drinks a potion labeled "Drink Me" and shrinks to a size that allows her to pass through a tiny door into a fantastic kingdom...
