Movie or TV Series Plot
The movie is a renewed version of the film "Angélique, Marquise des Anges" from 1964, which is itself an adaptation of the novel with the same title by Anne et Serge Golon.
As a young girl, Angélique, witnesses the instigation of a plot aiming to poison the King Louis XIV, his brother and Mazarin, which she publicly reveals. In order to protect her from any retaliation, Angélique is sent in to a nunnery for five years. Upon leaving the couvent, her father confesses he promised to marry her to Joffrey de Peyrac, a powerful and wealthy man, to whom he owes a favour. However, the Earl of Peyrac happens to be an older, limping and particularly ugly man. Therefore, despite his courteous manners, Angélique is physically repelled by her husband. Though with time, the young girl’s disgust turns into admiration for this brave and courteous man and eventually the two spouses fall madly in love with each other. Unfortunately, their passionate love pokes the king’s jealousy. He envies Peyrac’s wealth and Angélique’s beauty, and will therefore put a tragic end to their romance.
